Potato Gardening Tips

So it`s time to start thinking about what to sow in the garden and with the cost of living going up there`s has never been a better time to get your patch in order in your garden.

Potatoes
Potatoes are low maintenance and one of the most reliable crops you can grow, The seed for potatoes can usually be purchased from your local garden centre and in the right conditions they always grow well. Planting potatoes should happen in spring between March-May and you should plant the chunks about 40cm apart in 10cm-deep holes. Cover them and always give them plenty of water.

The potato plants should start popping up within weeks and with a rake in the soil in towards the stem the new potatoes will grow above the ones that you planted.

The longer you leave the plant, the bigger it will grow and the more potatoes you will grow, so try to be patient and wait until the plant is at a good size. There`s so much you can do with a potato including mashed, chipped, roasted or boiled etc

If you`re not sure you could find a professional gardener on TRADESCOPE to offer a little advice. They could even help you plant out your vegetable patch.
